I have the honour to inclose a copy of a despatch with its inclosures I have received from Mr. Hammond respecting the flag used by Gunboats of the "Canton Customs".

In receipt, you will see I have mentioned these vessels do not belong to the Custom's Service, which, as you are aware, has a distinguishing flag of its own.
The Viceroy considers - and I think rightly - that the duties of a Revenue and a Military department are different, and that amalgamation would...
